To me, this feels less like a traditional "operating system" and more like a cognitive orchestrator built on top of standard infrastructure.

This is a fundamental shift. While LLMs previously sat at the edge of a process generating text, they are now given a central role in routing actions, selecting functions, handling exceptions, and coordinating agent loops. I consider this a strong architectural concept, but I am not ready to call it a proven engineering practice.

The facts remain harsh. The concept is fascinating, but today it functions more as a design thesis than a standardized path.

Furthermore, I don't see modern LLMs possessing the properties to replace system software. They lack the determinism, guaranteed predictability, and low-latency response required at the kernel level. However, they are already remarkably effective as a decision-making layer atop APIs, queues, access policies, and business logic.

Business Impact and Automation

For businesses, this matters beyond the appealing metaphor of an "LLM OS". I view this as a signal: AI solution architecture is shifting from standalone assistants to managed agent loops. This reorders priorities in projects requiring AI automation, particularly in customer service, sales, logistics, and internal operations.

Companies that build an orchestration layer—rather than just connecting a model to an interface—will win. Those who continue buying "a chat with an API" and labeling it transformation will lose. When an LLM becomes the central routing hub for actions, project quality is defined not by the prompt, but by how tools, permissions, memory, observability, and error control are engineered.

In my practice, AI implementation almost always hits a bottleneck not at the model itself, but at the execution loop. If an agent can open a CRM, create a ticket, check inventory, send an email, and escalate a case, the main objective isn't to "achieve AI automation" at all costs, but to set clear boundaries for autonomy.
