The Trump administration, via the FCC, has restricted new imports and authorization of advanced foreign robots, including Chinese humanoids and robot dogs, plus some power inverters for energy and data centers. This is not about confiscating old devices but hitting future models and procurements for US AI infrastructure right now.

What exactly the FCC banned

This isn't a blanket ban on all Chinese robots, but a block on new imports and authorization of new models for sale in the U.S. Reuters on July 28 described this as an FCC decision: affected devices are placed on the Covered List, meaning new models won't get standard market clearance.

The list includes advanced foreign robots, including humanoids and quadruped robot dogs. Alongside them are some power inverters that connect renewable generation, batteries, and data center equipment to the grid. That's where the story stops being just about robot dogs and becomes about AI infrastructure.

Important detail: according to Reuters, the measure takes effect upon publication and covers models not yet released or authorized. Already approved devices can still be sold and used, though the FCC reserves the right to revisit old approvals. So it's not a warehouse raid, but a hard filter at the door.
